9 Best Mold Prevention Tips


Whenever we hear the word Mold, almost instantly a greenish black and slimy material comes into our mind.  Not all molds are bad though, some such as the Penicillin belong to one of the most commonly used antibiotics. But a few others are responsible for causing many health diseases which also include respiratory and immune problems. Mold spores can easily be passed from one are to another and hide in moist areas such as carpets, cabinets and bathrooms. Mold inspection activities should regularly be conducted.

Here are a few ways to make sure you prevent growth of molds inside your home and protect you and your family from many health hazards:

  1. Don’t keep any area inside your house moist

Molds are famous for growing in the moistest of places, such as wet carpets, leaky pipes, and bathrooms. Make sure to keep your carpets dried; your bathrooms cleaned up and fix any leaky pipe as quickly as you can to avoid the growth of mold.  Do not keep any wet clothes in your bathrooms and clean it well after you have had a bath.

  1. Analyze problems around the house and fix them

Make your house mold-resistant. Do regular mold inspections activities to identify all the problem areas in your house which can act as weak spots for mold. Is there any damp carpet? Replace it. Repair any gutter that might be overflowing or any pipes that might be leaking. Make sure you don’t have any condensation happening around your windows and seal them properly.

  1. Use only mold-resistant home products

Use a mold-resistant dry wall, paints or sheet if you are building a new house or simply repairing an old one. Such drywall has gypsum stone with fiberglass in it. It will prevent growth of moisture and mold as well.

Use such dehumidifiers or simply and air conditioning unit for this purpose. Use an exhaust fan while cooking or to dry your bathroom, or simply keep a window open.

Do not allow water to collect anywhere your house since it may cause seepage or collect in your basement.

  1. Protect your house plants

Your pretty plants have moist soil which can cause mold to grow and then spread to various part of your house. Use a bit of taheebo tea in the soil to avoid the growth of mold.

  1. Make sure air flows freely around your house

With a good flow, temperature will drop and there will be less moisture in your air. Keep doors open, use exhaust fans and open windows while cooking.
